A doctor in Pakistan has infected about 900 children with HIV, by using already used syringes. Outbreak of 500 case of the virus was reported in Ratodero earlier this year. However, this figure has increased to 1,100 with 900 children.Health officials fear the figure has increased after Dr Musaffar allegedly used contaminated syringes.The doctor allegedly charged 16p per visit and was said to be the cheapest in town.A quarter of the city’s 200,000 resident have been tested so far leading to health workers fearing the numbers could be much higher.After the scale of the outbreak the paediatrician was arrested and charged with negligence and manslaughter after a patient alleged that he saw him looking for syringe in waste bin.Imtiaz Jalbani, whose 6 children were treated by the doctor, said he once saw him searching for old needle in a bin for use on his son, all 6 of his children were lather diagnosed as HIV-positiveFour of Mr Jalbani’s children have since tested positive and the two youngest have died.Ghanghero, who is not yet convicted still does his work as a GP at a public hospital outside the city.Lack of HIV awareness in Pakistan has lead to victimization of some of the 900 infected kids, they are avoided by friends and are being compelled to stay out of public.
